Questions, Questions and more Questions ...
In the 1995 election for Sheriff, it appeared that the Sheriff and Parish President along
with the District Attorney, were in
opposition to one another in the Sheriff's race. Mr. Wiley against the President and
District Attorney's candidate. Mr. Wiley won
and there may have been some infighting on the other side. I seem to remember maybe a
fight. Anyway, there were some unhappy
losers.
Well, after a spell, Sheriff Wiley's brother engineered a deal where there was a KISS and
MAKE UP and all three became
ONE HAPPY FAMILY. Having had some experience in my personal life in a divorce court, this
attack on Mr. Martinez's
Courthouse addition reminds me of my experience.
In the Courthouse article, there are quotes from Judges, Sheriff, Assessor, Clerk of
Court, Representative and Parish
President.
"In 1976, we cut the ribbon (on the Gonzales Courthouse) and the day we cut it, it
was too small. We had to renovate
almost immediately," Wiley said.
Now when I read this next statement, I assumed that the statement was made by Mr. Wiley:
"The cry for new facilities does not stop with Judges and the Sheriff. The fact that
Donaldsonville is the Parish Seat
contributes to the problem".
The article does not say who made that statement. Whoever it was that made that statement
knew the real truth about
Ascension Parish's problem. Occasionally, I receive some letters with no return address
and the letters tell me to let go of history and
join today's world.
Maybe it is time for Ascension Parish Government to let go of history in regards to the
Parish Seat and build a Governmental
Complex outside of BOTH DONALDSONVILLE and GONZALES CITIES.
Another quote from the article. Give this statement a lot of thought:
"There is a plan to solve the space crunch, for now". State Representative Juba
Diez, D-Gonzales, and Parish President
Martinez met recently with governmental officials to discuss funding for a three story
building to be built next to the present
Courthouse East in Gonzales.
They both say they recognize the problem in the parish. "They're so overcrowded it is
unbelievable," Diez acknowledges.
Think about this. Will the three story be built on the same lot with the present
courthouse or across the street next to the
Hospital. Regardless which side: when the present building is turned over to the Sheriff,
Clerk of Court, Assessor and other offices,
there will be more people working there than the present set up. More cars, more traffic
on the streets and places to park. Now
counting the additional traffic and parking that will come with the new three story BAND
AID as someone referred to the proposal.
The streets of Irma and Worth Road are not equipped to handle it at certain hours of the
day along with the school traffic.
Remember each and every one of you quoted in this article less than 20 years from today -
the voters will look back and
judge your actions exactly as Sheriff Wiley judged the 1976 ribbon cutting.
